Valentine’s Day is around the corner…Time to Break Up!

VDAY Break Up

I am always shocked when the news stories start in late January about break ups!  It’s closing in on the end of January and the fourteenth of February is on it’s way… so the number of couples ending their relationships begins to sky rocket!

Here’s where I get confused.

1.  If you really care about the person you are in a relationship with then you should be excited to celebrate Valentine’s Day with them.  Am I right?  This should be a day for you to be as loving and cheesy as you want and no one can get on your case about it.

2.  If you aren’t in love with the person you are in a relationship with then hopefully you and your partner feel mutual and understand that you aren’t looking for commitment but looking for someone to share time with and have fun!  So, Valentine’s Day should be an excuse to have MORE FUN – get sexy, try something new and excite each other.  You don’t have to break up because you are afraid of buying a box of chocolates and some lingerie.  It sounds like a SWEET deal to me?

3.  If you haven’t shared your feelings with your partner and you want to end the relationship or you are starting to feel as though you want to end your relationship then I have two quick suggestions:

a.  You need to discuss how you feel asap!  You should have done it before Valentine’s Day.  I mean we did just end Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years!  Be strong, be an adult and respect the person you are dating.  Tell them how you feel.  They deserve to know.

b. Find a way to make Valentine’s Day a good experience for both of you that is fun and respects what you both enjoy.  Have an adult conversation and explain how you feel.  You will be surprised how well things go and how much better you are after you decide to be honest.

What are your thoughts on this rash of break ups to get released from commitment?
