Mars or Bust!  Would you take a one-way trip away from Earth?

For as long as I can remember, I have been obsessed with outer space.  My television is permanently set to the Science Channel; I have seen every documentary on Black Holes, the String Theory, the Multi-Verse; you name it.  Our planet & the Universe are brilliant but the thought of venturing 55 million kilometers (minimum distance at closest orbit) from everything that is familiar to me is a bit risky.

If there is one thing that I have learned from my voracious appetite for all things galactic is space is a violent environment.  The sheer magnitude of space creates a challenge we have not yet been able to master.  Our technology is rapidly improving but we are only just beginning to learn about space exploration beyond our solar system.  And every year we discover new & amazing facts about how ‘things’ work.  So while I would absolutely love to take a trip in a space shuttle and get to look back at Earth as the Sun rises and wakes up half the planet, for now I will be content with observing the progress, challenges and discoveries made by these few brave souls; who see this opportunity as a different one than me right now!

Would you take the trip? If given the chance would you leave Earth ‘for good’ and venture to be a pioneer of space travel and space habitation?  I would love to hear your comments.
