On a scale of 1 – 10. Where would you put your attitude right now?
Be honest.
If you’re a 10. Congrats. Keep scrolling superstar…
But if you’re not, keep reading because we’re going to get you there.
What most people forget is that your attitude is a leading indicator of your performance.
Think about it…literally.
When you’re in bad mood you make poor decisions. You make forced decisions and whether you notice it in the moment or not, they create more work and problems down the road.
Your emotions are a signal. You shouldn’t react to them, you should learn from them and let them guide you.
I coach my clients to ask themselves “Would I hire myself to do this job right now?” Most of the time the answer is no. But we make an emotional decision and we press ahead.
What if you stopped, and took the time to refocus and align your behaviors with your game plan. How would that impact your mood? Your business? Your week?
Research from neuroscience and cognitive psychology consistently shows that mental overload reduces cognitive flexibility which is the brain’s ability to generate new ideas and solutions.
So the next time you’re trying to figure out how to generate more leads or improve your sales team remind yourself to be part of the solution, not the problem.
Here’s two simple steps you can take today to make progress:
1. When you catch yourself feeling frustrated, stop what you’re doing and take 5. Breathe and ask yourself, “What do I need to learn from this experience”. Then do it!
2. If you’re focusing on more than two tasks at a time, you are already operating at a lower level. Review your game plan and choose the top two priorities that together create momentum when completed.
We’re all a bunch of control freaks so do yourself a favor and develop the skill of knowing when you’re in a flow state vs. a force state.
You can thank me later…!
