In the quiet moments of life, the ones that come after disappointment, failure, or just plain exhaustion, who do you turn to for inspiration?
It’s a question most people don’t ask themselves until they feel lost, stuck, or alone. But it’s one of the most important questions we can ask. Because where you turn when life gets hard… shapes everything about how you rise.
Some people look to mentors, books, music, or prayer. Others numb themselves with distractions, unhealthy habits, or addictions. And still others try to muscle through on their own, not realizing that isolation only deepens the disconnect.
Inspiration is fuel. Without it, you can find yourself drifting, disconnected from your goals, your faith, and your true self.
But here’s the good news: Inspiration isn’t a rare gift. It’s a practice. It’s a relationship. And it begins by choosing where you focus your energy when you need to be reminded of your purpose.
Are You Feeding Your Flame or Extinguishing It?
Studies show that people who regularly engage in uplifting activities, such as reading, journaling, spiritual reflection, or learning something new, are 68% more likely to report a strong sense of purpose in life, compared to those who don’t.
On the flip side, individuals who lack a regular source of inspiration are twice as likely to struggle with anxiety and depression, according to the American Psychological Association. When we stop seeking, we start settling. When we stop growing, we start decaying.
Ask yourself honestly:
-
When you’re going through a hard time, what do you reach for?
-
Do you open a book, reach out to a trusted friend, or get quiet in prayer?
-
Or do you scroll, binge, numb, avoid?
The answers to those questions will tell you a lot about the trajectory of your inner world.
You Are Never Alone
It’s easy to feel like you’re facing life by yourself. Whether you’re a leader, a parent, an entrepreneur, or someone simply trying to stay afloat, there are moments that feel crushing.
But I want to remind you of something sacred: You are never alone.
God is with you. Even when it feels like no one understands… even when you’re at your weakest… God is there. He’s not waiting for you to be perfect. He already knows you. He already accepts you. And He is always ready to guide you when you’re ready to receive.
Psalm 34:18 tells us,
“The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” That verse alone is a powerful reminder that when we feel our most depleted, He is closest.
So what if instead of turning to a quick fix, you turned to faith?
What if instead of spiraling, you paused to pray?
What if, right now, you invited God into the conversation you’ve been having with your fears?
A Practice to Try This Week
Here’s a simple practice to bring more inspiration into your life:
“The Inspiration Inventory”
Each evening this week, take five minutes and write down three things that inspired you that day. It could be a quote you read, a person you spoke to, a moment of beauty, or even a realization during a quiet breath.
Then, ask yourself:
-
Who or what made me feel more connected to myself today?
-
How can I create more space for that in my life?
This short but powerful practice helps rewire your brain to look for meaning and beauty throughout your day, rather than just reacting to problems.
And don’t forget to end with this simple prayer:
“God, thank You for walking with me. Help me stay open to Your wisdom, and guide me toward what inspires my spirit to grow.”
Final Thoughts
Inspiration isn’t just about feeling good. It’s about becoming aligned with the best version of yourself. It’s a light in the darkness. A hand on your shoulder. A whisper of clarity when the world feels loud.
So I’ll ask again…
Who do you turn to for inspiration?
And more importantly… are they leading you closer to the life you’re meant to live?
